      Partick Thistle vs Hearts Predictions

Championship side Partick Thistle will host Hearts at Firhill Stadium in the Scottish Cup as the sides aim to progress to the semi-final. Who will make it through?

Championship side Partick Thistle haven’t had the best season in Scotland’s second division not have they impressed over the last couple of years.

Ex-manager Alan Archibald did a fantastic job at the club, as he guided them to promotion by winning the Championship title back in 2013. He kept the Jags in the top flight during the next few seasons, but the 2017/2018 campaign ended in demotion to the league below. After a terrible start to this season, Archibald was finally sacked back in October, with ex-Celtic defender Gary Caldwell taking over at the club.

Whilst Thistle have improved over the last few months, the fact remains that they’re still rock-bottom in the Championship, but they are level on points with Falkirk and just one behind Alloa Athletic, who are currently in the safe zone. The Jags have also lost their two most recent games after not losing a single time in their first 7 of the year, winning 5 times in a row.

Thistle’s main priority will be staying alive and continue fighting to retain their status in the Championship, but they could also have a really good chance of gaining some silverware this season should things go their way, as a mere three games separate the Glasgow club from the Scottish Cup- albeit it wouldn’t be easy.

Hearts have been struggling a little bit over the last couple of weeks. The Jambos ended their year on a high with two consecutive wins over Hamilton and bitter city rivals Hibs, before continuing their good form into the new year with a win over Livingston, defeat to Dundee, victories against Kilmarnock and St Johhnstone, followed by a goalless draw against Livingston.

The Edinburgh club defeated non-league Auchinleck Talbot 4-0 with ease in the Scottish FA Cup, but Levein’s team has failed to win a game since. Hearts lost 2-1 to Motherwell after goalkeeper Colin Doyle fumbled a relatively easy freekick to give the Steelmen all 3 points, they drew 1-1 with bottom side St Mirren and more recently the Jambos failed to keep the 1-1 score against Celtic at Tynecastle as Neil Lennon won his first game back in charge at the club.

Partick Thistle may have had some luck throughout the season in this tournament, paying Stranraer and East Fife, and Hearts is the first Premiership club they’ve come up against. Thistle currently sit in last place, and the chances of them knocking Hearts out of the cup are slim, even if the Edinburgh club isn’t in the best form. We’re going to back the hosts to win to nil here, with a final score of 3-0.
