Draw 0-0

Reason for tip

Posh have not lost to the Owls in their last five home meetings, but Wednesday were holding them at 0-0 with ten men until the 64th minute of their clash in Peterborough earlier this season. The visitors have kept two clean sheets on the bounce and can shut up shop in this first leg to get a 0-0 draw.

Tense tussle expected at Weston Homes Stadium

Friday’s first-leg of this League One play-off semi-final between Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday is likely to be a very nervy affair. The Posh squeezed into the top six on the final day of the season when they beat Barnsley and the Owls did them a favour by defeating Derby.

Psychologically, they could have the edge in some ways as they were 2-0 winners over Darren Moore’s side at Weston Homes Stadium in August, although Wednesday took the points at Hillsborough in their more recent meeting.

Both games were low-scoring games where the team scoring first went on to win with a clean sheet and this one could follow that pattern.

Unlucky Owls can shut up shop again

Wednesday enter the play-offs in good form, having won five of their last six matches that helped set a club-record haul of 96 points. They were unlucky not to grab an automatic slot as that was the highest points total by a team to not finish in the top-two of a league since three points for a win was introduced in 1981-82.

Peterborough have not been as convincing of late, recording only two wins from their last five, but the form book can often be disregarded for the play-offs. The oddsmakers can’t decide on a favourite for this clash and the value may lie in the goals markets.

Fewer than three goals have been scored in four of Posh’s last five games and with the Owls shutting up shop in their two most recent outings, an Under 2.5 goals bet looks a solid play.
