Stockport can be backed to bring Peterborough back down to reality with an away win at London Road on Friday.

The hosts stunned Birmingham at Wembley in the EFL Trophy final on Sunday, but have suffered two straight League One home defeats and Darren Ferguson’s side may struggle to get the better of Dave Challinor’s team.

Stockport are 12 places and 29 points above Peterborough in the table. The hosts, who have won 13 and lost 19 of their 41 games this season, are 16th, while Stockport are fourth with 22 wins and nine defeats.

Stockport beat Rotherham 3-1 last weekend to bring the in-form visitors’ three-game winning run to an end. Stockport, who were 8/11 to win the game, have won 14 of the 21 matches in which they have been odds-on this season.

Backing Peterborough’s opponents during their current run of three defeats in four League One games would have resulted in a profit of 4.25 units, while backing them as underdogs this season would have led to a -7.40-unit loss. They have won just three of their 18 games in that role.

Stockport have been impressive defensively away from home this season, conceding just 18 goals – an average of 0.86 goals per game from their 21 matches.

Stockport are in form, having been unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches in League One. They have won five of their last six and will be aiming for a fifth straight success on Friday.

The 2-1 away win for Stockport looks a decent bet in the correct-score market. They were 2-1 winners against Peterborough last time they met in League One.
