      Plymouth vs Portsmouth Predictions

It was an action packed first leg as these two sides threw caution to the wind and went all out to secure their place at Wembley on the 23rd May. A frantic opening 20 minutes saw three goals and plenty of incidents as a capacity Fratton Park crowd were treated to all the thrills and spills of playoff football. Pompey struck first after Mark McNulty suprised Luke McCormick with an early shot. A double from Jamille Matt saw Plymouth take the lead, the highlight of which was a quick thinking overhead kick from close range. Gary Roberts then made no mistake from the penalty spot to level the tie and ensure it was still all to play for in the second leg.

The fun wasn’t only contained to the pitch. An off the ball incident which saw on-loan Fleetwood striker Jamille Matt head butt Michael Doyle saw a confrontation between the two teams coaching staff. Portsmouth manager Paul Cook was sent to the stands alongside Plymouth first team coach Paul Wotton. The Pompey manager will, however, be able to take his place in the dugout for the second leg after he escaped further punishment.

In terms of the second leg, it looks set to be a pretty similar affair. I once again see plenty of goals so both teams to score again looks like a good bet. After the action packed opening 20 minutes of the first leg though I think I’m going to sway towards there being over 2.5 goals, which you can get at 19/20 with Betfair. In terms of a correct score, I don’t think there is much between these two and we might even see extra time and penalties. Home advantage might just be enough to see Plymouth over the line, however, so I’m going to say Plymouth to win 2-1, which you can get at 9/1 with Betfair.
