West Bromwich Albion Over 1.5 Team Goals

Reason for tip

Plymouth have conceded two or more goals in 11 of their last 14 Championship games, a run which could continue against a West Brom team that scored five at home to Portsmouth last weekend. The Baggies have changed their attacking approach under new boss Tony Mowbray and it may reap rewards again.

West Bromwich Albion 2-1

Reason for tip

West Brom were not scoring many goals under Carlos Corberan, but Mowbray has brought in fresh ideas and a shoot-on-sight policy that worked against Portsmouth. Plymouth may be able to penetrate Albion once, like Pompey did, while keeping the visitors down to two goals if their goalkeeper fares better than Nicolas Scmid did at The Hawthorns.

Plymouth Argyle vs West Bromwich Albion Predictions

  • Plymouth have conceded two or more goals in 11 of their last 14 Championship games
  • West Brom scored five at home to Portsmouth last weekend
  • The Baggies have changed their attacking approach under new boss Tony Mowbray

Mowbray brings Baggies to the boil

West Brom will be looking to replicate last weekend’s five-star attacking display when they travel to Home Park to face Championship basement club Plymouth on Saturday.

Albion’s 5-1 win over Portsmouth at The Hawthorns set a new standard for them goals-wise as the Baggies had mustered just 33 goals in 27 games prior to Tony Mowbay’s return as head coach.

Mowbray has instructed his side to press more and to take more shots, which certainly paid off against a poor Pompey side. Admittedly better goalkeeping might have stopped the first three strikes, but West Brom did not sit back once they went 3-0 up and that bodes well for another positive display in Plymouth.

Key losses likely to leave Plymouth short

Argyle earned a creditable point at Sunderland last weekend, but again conceded multiple goals. Miron Muslic’s men shipped five at home to Burnley, who are hardly the most potent side in the division, the week before.

They have kept only one clean sheet in their last 15 league games and shipped two or more goals in 11 of their last 14. The departure of star winger Morgan Whittaker in the January transfer window plus rumours surrounding Ibrahim Cissoko leaving make them hard to support in this spot.

But while West Brom should win this game, it is probably best to side with the visitors to grab a couple of goals at roughly the same price because the unpredictable nature of Argyle could see them pull something special out.
