Hosts to follow-up impressive win

Port Vale are the team to back when they host Morecambe on Saturday. The hosts were impressive in their last League Two game, running out 3-0 winners against MK Dons, and they should have too much for Derek Adams’ side at Vale Park.

Port Vale beat MK Dons to bounce back from defeat by Colchester last week. They restricted the visitors to one shot on target and, having been priced as even-money favourites to win the game, this was an excellent result for them.

They are sixth in League Two, 17 places and 31 points above Morecambe. The hosts have 16 wins, 13 draws and seven defeats this season, while the visitors have eight wins, six draws and 23 losses.

Port Vale have been in good form at home, winning five of their last six League Two games at Vale Park and going unbeaten in nine of the last ten.

Morecambe’s six-match form in League Two shows one win, one draw and four defeats. They upset the odds to beat AFC Wimbledon 1-0 when priced at 3/1, but also lost 1-0 to 19th-placed Gillingham.

They have been disappointing in front of goal away from home this season, scoring just 14 goals in 19 games – an average of 0.74 goals a game. They have also lost five of their last seven League Two away games without scoring.

Morecambe’s struggles at the back will be a concern for Adams. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven League Two away games and in 12 of their last 15 matches overall.

Port Vale to win 1-0 looks a decent correct-score pick. Morecambe have lost their last seven League Two away games and have lost 12 of their league games 1-0, while Port Vale have won 12 of their games this season by the odd goal.
