Portimonese vs Gil Vicente Predictions
- Second-bottom Portimonense have drawn ten of their 24 league games this term
- Only one of Portimonense’s last eight home games has featured three or more goals
- Gil Vicente have lost only three of their last 11 league games, two of which were against Porto and Benfica
Portimonense desperate for points
Portimonense return to Primeira Liga action six points adrift of safety with just ten games remaining and really need to hit the ground running if they are to kick-start their battle against relegation.
Portimonense have won just twice in 24 outings this season and a lack of creativity in the final third has been to blame for their disappointing campaign. Antonio Folha’s side have netted just 16 times this term and have scored two or more in only three of their games.
The hosts have failed to score in 11 of their 24 matches but are resolute defensively and have shared the spoils as on ten occasions. Six of those ten stalemates have been recorded on home soil with them suffering only four defeats from 11 outings. It’s worth noting that three of their conquerors were heavyweights Porto, Braga and Sporting.
Gil Vicente enjoying a solid season
Gil Vicente were awarded automatic promotion to the Primeira Liga after their forced relegation in 2006 was nullified – and it is an opportunity they have grabbed with both hands. The Roosters sit ninth, 14 points clear of the relegation zone, and have lost only three of their last 11 games. Two of those defeats were against title rivals Porto and Benfica.
Gil Vicente have tasted defeat in only two of their last eight away matches and the presence of Sandro Lima, who has ten goals to his name and scored in the 1-1 draw against Portimonense at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos in October, provides them with a serious attack threat.
However, they have drawn in three of their last six road trips and may have to settle for a point at draw specialists Portimonense – three of the last seven meetings finished all-square while the other four were separated by just one goal.
Low-scoring affair on the cards
Only one of Portimonense’s last eight home games have featured three or more goals and this showdown is unlikely to be any different. There have been just 20 goals across in Portimonense’s 11 home fixtures (1.8 per game), with five of those games featuring one goal or fewer.
Gil Vicente have netted just ten times in 12 away outings, so anyone expecting a high-scoring contest may be bitterly disappointed. Those looking for a correct score prediction could opt for a 1-1 draw, which was the outcome when these two met earlier in the season, especially as Portimonense have drawn five of their last seven home games – three have ended 1-1.
