FC Porto vs Juventus Predictions

  • Porto have scored at least once in 16 of their last 18 Champions League games.
  • Juventus have kept just one clean sheet in their last five away assignments.
  • Porto and Juventus have been beaten just once each in the competition so far.

Stubborn Porto to provide stiff test

Two clubs hoping to leave domestic troubles behind meet at the Estádio Do Dragão when FC Porto host Italian giants Juventus in a Champions League tussle where goals at both ends look possible.

Porto look like relinquishing their Portuguese title this term, and while success on the continent also looks unlikely, Sérgio Conceição’s side have the technical ability to cause Juve a problem or two this week.

The Dragons showed class and a clinical touch in the final third during the group stage of the competition, where they finished second behind Man City, and Liverpool (twice) are the only team to have beaten Porto on their own patch in the tournament proper since September 2017.

Juve hoping for more continental relief

Juventus have been off the pace in Serie A this season where a new champion looks set to be crowned for the first time since 2011, though Andrea Pirlo’s charges have looked the part in Europe.

With the evergreen Cristiano Ronaldo central, Juve finished top of Group H ahead of Barcelona in the competition’s opening phase, pipping the Catalan giants to top spot on matchday six with a superb 3-0 win at the Camp Nou.

Goals at both ends likely

Notably few clubs manage to claim a clean sheet against Porto in the Champions League and the Dragons have dug their claws into 16 of their last 18 opponents in the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s watertight Man City team were the only outfit to keep Porto off the scoresheet in the group stage, and a Juventus defence that shutout their hosts just once in their last five attempts on the road could concede against them on Wednesday.

With Ronaldo keen to make an impression back in his homeland and a talented supporting cast supplying ammunition for the 36-year-old, Juve can hit back however, and backing both teams to score could be a smart move as a result.

Just a single defeat each in the competition so far highlights just how tough these teams are to topple, and our 1-1 correct score prediction tips Porto and Juventus to finish their first leg at level pegging.
