Azerbaijan to keep things respectable in Turin

Portugal should face little threat from Azerbaijan when the sides kick-off their World Cup qualifying campaigns this week, though the away side could be capable of keeping the score-line respectable.

This fixture is being played in Torino due to COVID-19, though the venue is unlikely to affect the result. European champions Portugal are superior in every department and have won the last four meetings between the teams without conceding.

Nonetheless, none of those contests resulted in a hiding for Azerbaijan, with all producing less than four goals. And the Azeris usually manage to avoid humiliating beatings. They’ve won just one of their last ten games, but all of those fixtures also generated under 4.5 goals.

Azerbaijan have also kept clean sheets in their last four starts, albeit against much inferior opposition to what they face on Wednesday. With a possibility that the Portuguese could be rusty in this opener, the best bet looks to be a win for Fernando Santos’ men and under 4.5 goals scored in total.
