Buoyant AZ can give PSV a scare

PSV will be tested by a vibrant young AZ side when both clubs resume their Eredivisie campaign at Philips Stadion on Saturday. Maarten Martens’ men were in good form before the Christmas break, having beaten second-placed Ajax and sixth-placed FC Twente in their last two home games.

AZ are less reliable on the road, which can only be expected from a young squad. But they gave Feyenoord a good game at De Kuip in November, registering more shots on target than the Rotterdammers in a 3-2 defeat.

A repeat of that performance would give them a chance to take something from this trip to Eindhoven, where PSV have won all eight league games this term.

Both teams to score in Eindhoven

The Eredivisie leaders smashed Twente 6-1 and Feyenoord 3-0 in their last two home league games, but were almost caught out by Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

An improving AZ side may not be far off Shakhtar’s level and they only lost 2-1 at home to PSV in October when reduced to 10 men after 10 minutes.PSV should still win, but backing both teams to score with at least three goals in the clash appeals more at the odds.
