PSV vs Girona Predictions
- Both teams have scored in six of PSV’s last seven home Champions League games
- Both teams were involved in high-scoring games on Saturday
- PSV have drawn their last three Champions League home matches 1-1 and two of their three games in this season’s competition have finished one apiece
PSV and Girona could be a good watch
PSV Eindhoven and Girona should produce some entertainment when they clash in a crucial Champions League league phase game for both at Philips Stadion on Tuesday. For the Dutch champions, it’s an opportunity to leapfrog their Spanish opponents in the standings while Girona will be looking to build on their debut win in the competition last time out.
Michel’s side secured a 2-0 home win over whipping boys Slovan Bratislava, who have looked woefully out of their depth at this level since a 5-1 mauling at Celtic’s Parkhead. They are running into some form now too after winning four of their lats six games and could sense a chance to pick up something against a team coming off a psychologically damaging defeat.
PSV lost 3-2 at Ajax on Saturday, a result which cut their lead at the top to five points and ended their perfect start to the Eredivisie campaign. It may be best to swerve the hosts at odds-o prices here until we can work out how much damage that result did to Peter Bosz’s side.
Both teams to score looks likely
Both teams to score looks a solid play, however, with six of PSV’s last seven home Champions League games having featured goals at both ends. Girona beat Leganes 4-3 at the weekend to move into the top-half of the La Liga table and their high-pressing game seems ideally suited to cause PSV some problems.
Although beaten 1-0 by PSG and 3-2 by Feyenoord in their opening two Champions League games, Girona were not far off taking a point in either and they should now be adjusting to the demands of the competition in their debut campaign.
They can secure a 1-1 draw in the Netherlands, which is a result that has been a recurring theme for PSV. Their last three Champions League home matches have ended 1-1 and two of PSV’s three games in this season’s competition have also finished one goal apiece.
