Rangers to Win

Reason for tip

Rangers put in a strong performance in a 2-2 draw in Lisbon last week and should have enough to complete the job at Ibrox against Benfica, who were thumped 5-0 by Porto in their last away match.

Rangers 2-1

Reason for tip

The Gers have scored at least twice in 12 of their last 15 games at Ibrox and a repeat of the 2-1 score they posted against Sparta Prague would not be a surprise against a team struggling for form on the road.

Rangers vs Benfica Predictions

  • Rangers are unbeaten in their last nine Europa League home matches
  • The Gers have scored at least twice in 12 of their last 15 games at Ibrox
  • Benfica are winless in their last four away games

Benfica’s away struggles could continue

It is looking like it could be a good season for Rangers as they sit two points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and they can take their chance to gain a Europa League quarter-final place by beating Benfica at Ibrox on Thursday.

The Gers have climbed their way back into title contention under Philippe Clement and their European home performances have been strong enough to suggest they can get past their Portuguese opponents, who have had a bit of a wobble.

Benfica remain favourites to progress in the tie despite a 2-2 draw in last week’s first leg, where they needed a penalty and an own goal to spare their blushes.

And confidence levels could be low for their trip to Glasgow after four away games without a win, culminating in a 5-0 thumping at Porto on the last occasion they were on their travels.

Confidence high in the Gers camp

Rangers suffered a slip with a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell the last time they were on their own patch, but victories over Real Betis and Sparta Prague in the group stage should mean they are full of beans for Benfica’s visit.

They have scored at least twice in all but three of their last 15 home matches, so a 2-1 victory for the Scots could be of interest for those looking for a correct-score interest.
