Real Madrid vs Ajax Predictions
When Real Madrid returned from their 2-1 victory at Ajax, things were looking up for them. The European champions had one foot in the last eight, and they were aiming to boost their league position before the rematch with the Dutch side. Things haven’t exactly gone to plan, and now they meet a team who are back in form. Ajax have recovered from that Champions League defeat by winning three straight games – scoring 13 goals in that time. Can they keep that form rolling into Tuesday night’s last 16 second leg?
Real Madrid are licking their wounds after being outclassed by Barcelona. After losing a cup Clasico 3-0 in midweek, they lost at home to the Catalans again, going down 1-0 on Saturday. The European champions are now out of the Copa del Rey, they’re 12 points shy in the title race and struggling for silverware. Once again this side are going all in on the European Cup, but can they build upon their 2-1 victory in Amsterdam to make it through to the quarter-finals?
Things are looking good for the hosts coming into this game. 100% of teams to have won 2-1 away from home in the first leg of a Champions League knockout match have progressed to the next round (8 previous cases). That’s left Ajax as massive outsiders to qualify, despite a strong showing in Europe this term. They came through a couple of tough clashes with Bayern Munich, drawing home and away. That gives them some hope ahead of the first leg, but they ended up being outclassed.
The bookies are expecting another victory for Real in this one. They’re on a seven-game winning streak against Ajax, and they’re pushing to add to that in this one. The European champions need to get their home form back on track, while they could use a message in the Champions League. They’ve won 42 of their last 53 games here in this competition, and they should edge out Ajax in this one.
However, the visitors have managed to score in 12 of their last 13 games on the road in this competition. They’ve seen both teams score in 11 of those matches, while the Dutch side have scored in their last seven in Europe. We see them grabbing a goal in a defeat here, with Real conceding in eight of their last nine home games in the Champions League. We’re going for Real to win and BTTS on Tuesday night.
