Los Blancos to heap pressure on Girona

Title-chasing Real Madrid host Girona at the Bernabeu on Sunday and Los Blancos should prevail in a high-scoring contest. Girona’s last five matches have all featured over 2.5 goals.

Real are second in the league, eight places and 20 points above Girona. They have 15 wins, six draws and three losses from their 24 games this season, while Girona have nine wins, four draws and 11 defeats.

Los Blancos are in a three-way title battle with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid and they’ll be full of confidence after a dominant 3-1 Champions League triumph over Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, it’s been a difficult time for Girona, who have lost four of their last five La Liga matches and have sustained two successive defeats, while Real have been winners in nine of their last 11 league games at home.

A 2-1 defeat to Getafe last week marked Girona’s fifth consecutive La Liga game with over 2.5 goals, and while they dominated possession with 71.4% of the ball, Getafe had more chances and could have won by a wider margin.

Eleven of Girona’s last 13 La Liga games have produced over 2.5 goals and there should be plenty of chances in this one.

Real have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last three home league games, so while the hosts’ firepower could ultimately make the difference, there is every chance Girona will find a way through.

Los Blancos have won their last three league meetings with Girona by at least two goals and a 3-1 home win is an attractive correct-score bet. Girona have lost three of their last four away games in the Primera Liga.
