Real Madrid vs Paris Saint Germain Predictions

Real Madrid, despite missing out on the La Liga title, can class last season as a rather big success. Yet again they triumphed in the Champions League as they beat Atletico Madrid (yet again) on penalties, which made for a very satisfactory end to club legend Zinedine Zidane’s first season at the helm of the Galacticos.

Zidane’s record in the latter portion of the season was formidable to say the least. They won 15 of their 18 matches in all competitions in normal time, winning the Champions League final on penalties, drawing away to Manchester City and losing just once.

However, their key players will be missing from this pre-season tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo is out with ligament damage from the injury he picked up in the Euro 2016 final, whilst Gareth Bale, Alvaro Morata, Luka Modric, Pepe, and Sergio Ramos are amongst the missing due to being rested after Euro 2016.

Paris Saint Germain are missing a few players themselves, but not as many as their opponents. Blaise Matuidi and new signing Gregorz Krychowiak are being rested, whilst they are still without a main replacement for the departed Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Edinson Cavani and Hatem Ben Arfa played that role in their 3-1 win over Inter Milan on Sunday, but they will be expected to bring somebody else in before the summer ends.

Their International Champions Cup opener against Inter Milan was a very decent performance from a largely second string squad, but surprisingly it was none of the traditional attacking players that found the net. Right back Serge Aurier opened the scoring after 15 minutes, with substitute left back netting with half an hour to go after a Stefan Jovetic equaliser. It was Aurier again who got the 3rd with three minutes remaining, This win made it nine wins and one draw in their last ten games since they were defeated by Manchester City.

They have a real chance of getting one over on Real Madrid here. The Bernebeu outfit are severely depleted and it’s anybody’s guess who will end up playing. Paris Saint Germain, on the other hand, stated their intentions by playing a number of first team players against Inter Milan, and they should have the upper hand in terms of both player quality and match fitness. I’m backing a Paris Saint Germain 0.0 Asian Handicap at 1.875 alongside a 2-1 correct score prediction at 17/2.
