Manchester United have a chance to put their domestic troubles to one side on Thursday as they head to Real Sociedad in the last 16 of the Europa League.

The Old Trafford outfit were dumped out of the FA Cup at the weekend and now this competition is their only chance to claim some silverware this season, but La Real will provide a stern test.

Sociedad have been in fine form at the Anoeta of late with 11 wins in their last 14 games, winning each of their last four home assignments in this competition. Home advantage should give Imanol Alguacil’s the edge in the first leg and the La Liga side can grind out a 2-1 win, as they’ve scored at least twice in each of their last six home wins and exactly twice in three of those.

Orri Oskarsson has struggled to make an impact in his debut season in Spain this term with just three league goals but the former FC Copenhagen man has been far more effective in Europe. Oskarsson has four goals in seven games in this competition and the Iceland international can add to his haul against United.
