Atleti set sights on place in last 16

Atletico Madrid are on the brink of securing a last-16 berth in this season’s Champions League and they can get the job done on the road to Salzburg.

Atleti have won five of their seven games in the competition this season, including each of their last four games against PSG, Sparta Prague, Slovan Bratislava and Bayer Leverkusen.

Diego Simeone’s men should therefore be in confident mood, especially as they are visiting a Salzburg side who have seriously underwhelmed in this season’s Champions League.

Lowly Salzburg unlikely to cause many problems

Salzburg have already been eliminated from the competition, losing six of their seven matches in the league phase so far.

In five of those defeats they also failed to score, while all of their losses have been by at least two goals, so a bet on Atletico Madrid to cover the -1 goal handicap could be the best approach.

As well as looking permeable at the back, Salzburg have not had a lot of luck in front of goal in this season’s Champions League, failing to score in any of their three home games in the competition against Brest, Dinamo Zagreb and PSG.

Atleti may not have the defensive resolve of Simeone’s early tenure but they should have enough about them to keep the door shut in Austria and 2-0 looks the way to go in the correct score betting.
