Rennes can see off travel sick Brest

Rennes look the best bet when they host Brest on Saturday. The visitors have been poor on the road this season, winning once and losing seven times, while Jorge Sampaoli’s Rennes have won five and lost three at home.

Brest are three places above Rennes in the table and both teams have lost more games than they’ve won. Brest, in 11th, have seven wins and nine defeats, while Rennes, in 14th, have won five and lost ten.

It’s hard to draw many conclusions from Brest’s recent results, with three wins and three defeats in their last six outings. They didn’t see much of the ball, with only 32.8 percent possession, but ran out 2-1 winners against Lyon in their last Ligue 1 game on Saturday.

That suggests their luck might run out here.

Rennes have been impressive defensively at home, conceding just seven goals in nine Ligue 1 games – an average of 0.8 goals per game. In contrast, Brest have been disappointing on the road, shipping 20 goals in eight away matches – an average of 2.5 goals conceded per game.

Rennes are having a poor season by their standards, but they are capable of winning this game comfortably. Three of Rennes’ five Ligue 1 victories this season have come by three or more goals, and a 3-0 win for the hosts is the bold correct-score pick.
