Rennes vs Marseille Predictions
- Rennes have lost their last two home games against top-half clubs
- Marseille have won seven of their eight away Ligue 1 matches this season
- Mason Greenwood has scored seven goals in eight away Ligue 1 appearances
Marseille can maintain their title tilt
Marseille can maintain their Ligue 1 title tilt when they take on struggling Rennes at Roazhon Park on Saturday. Les Phoceens have the best away record in the French top flight, having won seven of their eight road trips in the league under Roberto De Zerbi.
They beat Saint Etienne 2-0 at Stade Geoffroy Guichard around a month ago to make it four away league wins on the bounce and they should be able to see off Rennes, who have beaten only one top-half team at home, by a similar score.
Jorge Sampaoli’s side were beaten 3-2 by Nice last weekend and now sit in 13th place only two points better off than Nantes, who occupy the relegation play-off position. Rennes did strengthen their ranks very early in the transfer window when they lured ex-Lens midfielder Seko Fofana back from Saudi Arabia and he should be able to help them avoid becoming embroiled in a survival battle.
Greenwood gets goals on the road
The home side might be good for a goal in this game because they have found the back of the net nine times in their last four games, having previously failed to register in three.
Backing Marseille to win with both teams on the scoresheet is worthwhile at the odds because De Zerbi’s side have kept only two away clean sheets all season. Les Olympiens regularly score multiple goals on the road so a safer play may be to back them to win with at least two goals in the game.
Mason Greenwood has been a revelation in France this term and particularly away from home, where he has scored seven times at a rate of one every 100 minutes. The Englishman looks like the standout pick to score at anytime.
