Hosts could spring a surprise in Latvia

Rigas sit near the bottom of the pile in the league phase of the Europa League, but their performances have been better than results suggest and they could add to their two points at home against Ajax.

The Latvian side have drawn at home to Anderlecht and Galatasaray in this season’s competition and were narrow 1-0 losers at Eintracht Frankfurt in October, while they haven’t conceded more than two goals since their opening round trip to Steau Bucharest.

Ajax, who sit 11th in the standings, have lost their last two in this competition and haven’t been at their best away from home this season.

They have only won three of their last seven trips in all competitions, and Rigas look a big price to earn a point or more at home. A win could be beyond them, though, and a repeat of their 1-1 draw at home to Anderlecht in November could be on the cards, which is the same scoreline Ajax played out away to Slavia Prague earlier this season.
