Romania vs Ukraine Predictions
- Four of the last five meetings have featured four or more goals
- Both teams have scored in four of the six meetings between the pair
- Romania have lost just one of their last 15 matches in all competitions
- Ukraine lost just two of their eight qualifying group-stage fixtures
Opening encounter could end all square
Ukraine had to play third fiddle in a qualifying group alongside England and Italy, but the Blue and Yellows are warm favourites to finish second behind Belgium in Group E at Euro 2024.
However, Romania could pose a threat to that outcome after they qualified for this summer’s finals in Germany with an unblemished record.
Romania topped their section ahead of Switzerland and Israel with six wins and four draws and they arrive for this tournament on the back of just one defeat from their last 15 outings.
Ukraine are favourites to open their campaign with a win here but we predict that this match will finish all square in Munich.
Romania have won three of the six meetings between these two, and past meetings have been lively encounters.
Goals could flow in Munich
Four of the last five meetings have featured at least four goals with the last dust-up in 2016 finishing 4-3 to Ukraine.
It’s unlikely we will see that many goals this week but a lively encounter is expected and our prediction is for this Group E opener to finish 2-2.
Ukraine conceded three goals to Poland in a recent friendly, but they have held Germany and Italy to draws in the past seven months and they will need to be at their best to keep tabs on a lively Romanian outfit.
Romania scored two or more goals in six of their qualifying fixtures and they scored 16 goals overall in ten qualifying matches.
This should be an entertaining contest and there are a couple of in-form forwards to keep an eye on.
Dovbyk to showcase his talents
Nicole Stanciu has scored 14 goals in 70 matches for Romania but the midfielder may be overshadowed by Ukraine hotshot Artem Dovbyk on Monday.
The Girona forward bagged 24 goals this season to finish as the top scorer in La Liga and, although he scored just twice in qualifying for Euro 2024, we predict that the 26-year-old can get on the scoresheet in Munich this week.
Dovbyk can expect to lead the attack in Ukraine’s opening fixture and he will likely receive good service from Girona teammate Viktor Tyshankov, Shakhtar star Georgiy Sudakov and Chelsea winger Mikhailo Mudryk.
That’s a formidable force in attack and Dovybyk is predicted to open his account at the first time of asking in Germany.
