      Rotherham vs Reading Predictions

      • Six of the last eight meetings between Rotherham United and Reading have contained under 2.5 goals.
      • Three of Reading’s last four league games have contained just one goal.
      • Five of Rotherham United’s last six league contests, meanwhile, have contained fewer than three goals.

Low-scoring affair expected at New York Stadium

Six of the last eight head-to-head meetings between Rotherham United and Reading have contained under 2.5 goals, and more of the same may be expected on Saturday with both sides tipped to struggle in the Championship this term.

Newly promoted Rotherham have only played one league game thus far after seeing their trip to Coventry City postponed last week, while five of their last six league contests have contained under 2.5 goals. They conceded just 33 goals in League One last season, 11 fewer than the division’s next-best rearguards (MK Dons and Wigan Athletic with 44), and Paul Warne will need to retain that solidity to compete in the second tier.

Reading, meanwhile, endured a frustrating summer as they lost John Swift and struggled to improve their squad after being placed under a transfer embargo. Three of their last four league games have contained just a single goal, and narrow defeats at Blackpool and Stevenage (in the EFL Cup) in the past fortnight do not bode well for Paul Ince’s team.

      Under 2.5 goals expected

Given both sides have made inconsistent starts to the new campaign, backing under 2.5 goals to be scored when two poor attacking outfits meet could be a strong play.

Meanwhile, Rotherham won 15 of their 13 home league games last term, and a 1-0 win for the hosts could represent a decent correct score play.
