Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Sampdoria have the worst attacking record in Europe’s top five leagues and have seen under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven matches. Bologna, meanwhile, have seen a maximum of two goals scored in four of their last five contests.

Bologna 1-0

Reason for tip

Sampdoria have not scored in a home league game since September, losing six of their subsequent seven games on their own turf. Bologna have beaten Udinese and Fiorentina on their last two road trips, and they look good for more away success.

Sampdoria vs Bologna Predictions

  • Sampdoria have failed to score in 10 of their last 12 games.
  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in six of the last seven matches to feature Samp.
  • Bologna and Sampdoria shared a 1-1 draw in their return fixture in October.
  • Bologna have seen under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five contests.

Samp improving, but lack goals

Sampdoria will be pleased with their efforts after shutting Inter Milan out in a goalless draw on Monday, making it consecutive draws in Serie A after a five-game winless run. However, Dejan Stankovic’s men still looked doomed, sitting eight points adrift of safety and possessing the worst attacking record in Europe’s top five leagues. Saturday’s meeting with Bologna will represent another tough test.

The hosts have failed to score in 10 of their last 12 matches, and, remarkably, last netted in a home league game on September 10. Since then, Samp have failed to net in seven games on their own turf, losing six of them. A goalfest, then, is not expected – Sampdoria have seen under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven games, while Monday’s draw against Inter hinted at an ability for their five-man backline to keep things tight.

Bologna, meanwhile, have won three of their last five league games, including each of their last two on the road at Udinese and Fiorentina. Thiago Motta’s men are threatening to break into the top half – and perhaps the top seven – following their decent run, and they have also been involved in several tight contests recently. Four of their last five games have contained under 2.5 goals, and more of the same is likely here.

Goalfest unlikely in Genoa

With Sampdoria consistently awful in front of goal and Bologna being relatively solid of late, backing under 2.5 goals to be scored looks like a strong play ahead of Saturday’s game.

Meanwhile, with Samp failing to win at home all campaign and netting just twice in 11 outings on their own turf in Serie A, a 1-0 away win could represent a solid correct score prediction.
