      Under 2.5 Match Goals

      Reason for tip

With just 19 goals in 30 Serie A outingsS, Sampdoria are the lowest-scoring side in Europe’s top five leagues this season. Spezia, meanwhile, have the third-worst attacking record in the Italian top flight, netting just 25 goals. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the visitors’ last six, and more of the same looks likely on Saturday.

      Draw 1-1

      Reason for tip

Spezia have drawn four of their seven games under Leonardo Semplici, only winning one of their last 13 across all competitions. Sampdoria, meanwhile, have one victory in their last 15 and have only scored eight goals in 15 home league games this term, so a low-scoring draw looks possible.

      Sampdoria vs Spezia Predictions

      • While Spezia are the third-lowest scoring side in Serie A this term, Sampdoria’s tally of just 19 goals is the worst in the Italian top flight.
      • Spezia have seen under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last six matches.
      • The visitors have failed to score in seven of their last 12 games.

Luigi Ferraris clash could prove decisive

While crisis club Sampdoria approach Saturday’s meeting with fellow strugglers Spezia 10 points adrift of safety and unlikely to extend their stay in Serie A beyond this campaign, a home win at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris would blow the relegation dogfight wide open, with the visitors currently just three points clear of the dotted line. Both sides’ struggles can largely be attributed to a failure to find a regular source of goals, so punters should not expect too much goalmouth action.

Indeed, while Spezia are the third-lowest scoring side in Serie A with just 25 goals in 30 matches this season, Sampdoria are the only team yet to even hit the net 20 times this term (19). While Dejan Stankovic’s side have shown some fight in recent weeks, beating Verona last month and holding Lecce last time out, they have won just one of their last 15 (D4 L10), and financial ruin could await them if – or when – they slip through the trapdoor. Samp have also taken a league-low seven points from their 15 home games this term, scoring a miserable eight goals on their own turf.

Spezia, meanwhile, are nervously looking over their shoulders after going four games without a victory. Last month’s upset of Inter Milan remains their only success in their last 13 matches (D5 L7), while they have failed to hit the net in seven of their last 12 in Serie A – most recently in last week’s deserved 3-0 defeat to Lazio. Besides 13-goal leading marksman M’Bala Nzola, no Spezia player has more than two league goals this season, which poses a problem coach Leonardo Semplici needs to solve.

Tense affair likely as relegation candidates face off

While Sampdoria are the lowest-scoring side in Europe’s top five leagues this campaign, visiting boss Semplici has inspired a return of just six goals in seven games since taking charge of Spezia.

With neither side worth backing for victory in what promises to be a cagey game, under 2.5 match goals looks a prudent alternative play. Meanwhile, a 1-1 draw could represent a decent correct score prediction – Spezia have drawn four of their seven games since changing coach in February.
