Santa Clara vs FC Porto Predictions

  • Porto have covered a -1 handicap in five of their last seven away games in all competitions, scoring 15 goals without reply in the last four.
  • Porto beat Santa Clara 3-0 both home and away last season.

Depend on Dragons for comfortable away win

Porto’s resurgent form can carry them to a comfortable win when they take on relegation-threatened Santa Clara in the Azores on Saturday.

Sergio Conceicao’s side thrashed Club Brugge 4-0 in midweek to give themselves a chance of finishing above the Belgians at the top of Champions League Group B. They have now won their last four away games in all competitions with a combined score of 15-0 in their favour.

This trip west is perhaps not as hard as it would have been last season when Santa Clara were going well as the Azoreans are sat in 16th place in the table right now with only one win to show from their last six games. That victory was achieved thanks to an 87th-minute winner on the road at Vizela, who had been reduced to ten men in the second minute.

Porto have weapons to win well

Porto’s midfield is starting to recover from the summer sales of a Fabio Viera and Vitinha with Otavio now the chief string-puller for red-hot striker Mehdi Taremi. The Iran international can be relied upon for a bit of trickery when Porto are in a spot and his presence in the side will keep Santa Clara on the back foot.

The Dragons should not only win but cover a -1 handicap – as they have done in five of their last seven on the road – to secure an odds-against payout for their backers. A 3-0 win is the obvious choice in correct score markets as both of Porto’s league wins over Santa Clara last season were by that exact score.
