New signing Terrode to fire Schalke to victory

Two of Germany’s biggest clubs go head-to-head in the second tier of German football as the 2. Bundesliga kicks off on Friday, and it could be a Schalke side fresh from relegation taking the spoils at the Veltins-Arena.

The hosts were relegated after an utterly dreadful season last term and their squad has been significantly but necessarily gutted. Suat Serdar, Benito Raman, Shkodran Mustafi, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Sebastian Rudy, Nabil Bentaleb and Sead Kolasinac have all vacated the wage bill but despite all these departures the Gelsenkirchen club still have a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

One of the key additions is that of Simon Terrode. The 2. Bundesliga specialist topped the scoring charts for none other than Hamburg last season with 24 league goals and now has an impressive 142 goals in 253 second-flight games.

He will lead the line against his former employers on Friday and after netting four times in his final four games for Hamburg it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the scoresheet.

Terrode’s influence should be enough to guide Schalke to victory. Both are among the favourites for promotion but Hamburg have finished fourth for three successive seasons and they ended last term with just two wins from their last eight games.

Away from home it got even worse, losing four of their final seven and conceding an average of 1.86 goals per game in this period. They only failed to score once, though, so a Schalke win and a 2-1 correct score prediction appeal.
