Sheffield Wednesday to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Sheffield Wednesday have won their last two games with at least three goals scored in each and can stay on a roll against a Blades side that could be without key players due to injury.
Sheffield United looked tired when they conceded a late equaliser to Bristol City on Tuesday and, having seen a few teams in their position suffer in similar circumstances down the years, this looks like a great tie to oppose them.

Sheffield Wednesday 2-1

Reason for tip

The Owls have scored multiple goals in their last two games and three of their last six at home. They can bag a brace against the Blades, who should maintain their scoring streak on the road as they face a team that have not kept a clean sheet in their last six at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Sheffield Wednesday have won their last two games with at least three goals scored in each
  • Sheffield United could be without key players due to injury
  • The Blades looked tired when they conceded a late equaliser to Bristol City on Tuesday

Blades look like they need a break

Sheffield United look like they need a break and the bad news for Chris Wilder’s team is that they won’t get one until after Sunday’s Steel City derby with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. A jaded Blades side were pushed back by Bristol City as the Robins sought an equaliser at Bramall Lane on Tuesday before they finally succumbed to Mark Sykes’ stoppage-time strike.

That result means they go into the derby in second place and not top, as they were before kick-off in midweek, and there is every chance Wilder’s side drop points to an Owls team that has grown in confidence lately.

Danny Rohl’s men have won back-to-back league games for the first time since December, beating Plymouth 3-0 and Norwich 3-2 in the space of a few days. What makes those results all the more remarkable is that they were both away from home and involved the squad making round trips of 600 and 300 miles respectively.

Owls boss could Rohl the dice again

This would have been a week that Rohl would have anticipated with trepidation not long ago, but with six points in the bag taking his side to 11th place in the table it almost feels like a free hit. The German switched things around at Carrow Road on Tuesday when his side were 2-0 down and the change in formation elicited a famous comeback.

His squad may just be able to pull off another one on Sunday when they take on a Blades team that could be without two key players. In-form striker Tyrese Campbell came off with an injury after scoring his third goal in three on Tuesday while Vini Souza missed the game with hamstring fatigue.

The Blades’ points per game with Souza in their ranks is over 2.2, but it drops to 1.88 when he is absent. It is not a huge difference, but it is enough to make me think this could be Wednesday’s day. Back the hosts to win with at least three goals in the game, as they have done on their last two trips.
