Sunderland to Win

Reason for tip

Sunderland will feel disappointed to have lost their last two matches, late on at Leeds and then 1-0 to Hull, but they can bounce back against a mid-table Sheffield Wednesday side who have managed just two wins in their last nine Championship games.

Sunderland 2-1

Reason for tip

While a win may prove beyond Sheffield Wednesday, they have netted in all but one of their last seven Championship games and can score in defeat against Sunderland, who have managed just two clean sheets in nine league away matches.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland Predictions

  • Sheffield Wednesday have won just two of their last nine Championship games
  • Sunderland have lost only two of their last ten league matches
  • The Black Cats routed the Owls 4-0 in August’s reverse fixture

Black Cats can bounce back at Hillsborough

Excuses can be made for Sunderland’s late collapse at Elland Road last Monday, with Leeds now five points clear at the top of the Championship, but the Black Cats’ 1-0 home loss to Hull on Saturday is far less forgivable.

The Tigers are battling relegation and Sunderland, who were poor that day, now find themselves eight points behind second-placed Sheffield United and unlikely to finish in an automatic-promotion spot.

However, while the Black Cats were disappointing in Saturday’s defeat, Regis Le Bris still has a supremely talented squad at his disposal and their quality should show at Hillsborough on Friday.

Sunderland set for important victory

Sheffield Wednesday have seen their own aspirations dashed in recent weeks, with a run of two wins in nine league games leaving them 12th and six points off the top six, and they were routed 4-0 by Burnley last Friday.

Sunderland beat Wednesday by that same scoreline in August’s reverse fixture and while things may not be so straightforward this time, Le Bris’ side should still be able to secure all three points in the Steel City.

Danny Rohl’s side have failed to score in just one of their last seven Championship away games, suggesting they may have enough to find the net, but the Black Cats’ youthful stars should double their hosts’ tally to secure a 2-1 win.
