Another quiet afternoon for Shrewsbury

Six of Shrewsbury’s last eight League One matches have ended with under 2.5 goals and Saturday’s game at Greenhous Meadow, when Cambridge United are the visitors, is unlikely to produce a goal fest.

Shrewsbury are bottom of the league table with 24 defeats so far, while Cambridge United are one place above them with just three points more. They have seven wins and 22 losses.

Shrewsbury Town followed a dispiriting 4-1 defeat to Birmingham last weekend with a 0-0 draw away against Wycombe in their last League One game.

This was their sixth League One game in eight with under 2.5 goals and Shrewsbury would have been far happier than Wycombe with the stalemate, having been priced at 7/1 to win the game, even though they didn’t manage to get a shot on target.

Shrewsbury’s last four League One home games have all ended with fewer than three goals and Saturday’s game is unlikely to be a humdinger.

Both teams have struggled to find the back of the net lately. Shrewsbury are without a goal in their last four League One games in front of their own fans and Cambridge United have scored just 39 goals in 40 games this season – an average of 0.98 goals per game.

It could be hard to separate these two sides, with the 1-1 draw looking like a decent correct-score bet. Two of Cambridge United’s last three games in League One have been 1-1 draws and six of their 11 draws this season have finished 1-1.
