Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in seven of Shrewsbury’s last nine games and they are yet to draw a blank at home in five fixtures since Gareth Ainsworth took charge. Wrexham have scored in 11 consecutive games but have found clean sheets hard to come by on their travels so both teams look capable of scoring.

Wrexham 2-1

Reason for tip

Goals at both ends are expected, but Wrexham are the team in form with eight wins in their last 11. The visitors’ last seven wins have come via one-goal margins and they can edge out Shrewsbury 2-1.

Shrewsbury vs Wrexham Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in seven of Shrewsbury’s last nine games.
  • There have been goals at both ends in five of Wrexham’s last six.
  • Wrexham have won eight of their last 11 across all competitions.

Struggling Shrews host high-flying Wrexham

Shrewsbury sit third from bottom in League One, eight points adrift of safety, and they face a tough assignment against automatic promotion contenders Wrexham on Thursday.

The visitors are the odds-on favourites but Salop have been better since Gareth Ainsworth took charge and they’ve only lost one of their last four.

I am still leaning towards a Wrexham win, but the better angle for our main bet could be backing both teams to score at evens rather than going for a result.

Shrewsbury have seen both teams score in seven of their last nine games and they have scored in all five of their home fixtures since Ainsworth’s appointment (W2, D1, L2).

Wrexham have scored in 11 consecutive games but have only managed one clean sheet in their last six, while they have managed just one shut-out on their travels since the end of October and that came at bottom club Burton.

Correct score punters should still side with a Wrexham win as they are in fine form with eight victories in their last 11 games across all competitions. The Shrews have scored exactly one goal in six of their last eight games, while each of the Welsh side’s last seven victories have been by one-goal margins so a 2-1 away win has a chance.

The Red Dragons have shared the goals around this season and an outside option for an anytime effort is defender Max Cleworth. The 22-year-old has five goals in 21 league games and has three in his last 12 games across all competitions.
