Slovenia vs Serbia Predictions
- Slovenia held Denmark to a 1-1 draw in their group C opener
- Serbia were beaten 1-0 by group favourites England
- Their last meeting came in 2022, in a 2-2 draw in the Nations League
Eagles could claim first ever Euros victory
A strong second-half performance was not enough for Serbia to overturn the woes of the first 45 as the Eagles fell to a 1-0 defeat to England on matchday one but Dragan Stojkovic’s side could bounce back with their first ever European Championship victory when they face Slovenia in Munich.
There were plenty of positives for Stojkovic to take after their defeat as they frustrated the Three Lions for large swathes of the 90 minutes, however chances were few and far between for the Eagles, with Dusan Vlahovic’s effort from the edge area forcing the only save from England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Slovenia will have been happy with their performance against Denmark as they came away with a 1-1 draw thanks to Erik Janza’s deflected second-half effort, while star striker Benjamin Sesko also looked dangerous in and around the penalty area with a couple of blistering efforts.
However, they arguably should not have had a chance to get back into the game after the Danes missed a slew of glorious opportunities – notably goalscorer Christian Eriksen blazing over from 10 yards as well as Rasmus Hojlund forcing Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak into a brave save in the second half.
If Serbia can get their creative juices flowing and start providing the likes of Vlahovic and captain Aleksandar Mitrovic with the right service, then they should be able to put their opponents to the sword and create a memorable moment of Serbia footballing history.
Vlahovic can Du-some damage in Munich
Despite not testing the England goal as much as he would have liked, Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic was one of the brightest sparks for Serbia on Sunday, with 24-year-old pressing from the front and always providing an outlet for his team-mates.
While Mitrovic struggled to get the better of the England backline – with Stojkovic eventually substituting the Al-Hilal striker after an hour – Vlahovic played the full ninety and he will likely start again on Thursday, where he could shine against a weaker defence.
Vlahovic was in good form heading into the tournament after scoring 18 goals in all competitions last season and he could be the difference maker against Slovenia. Another tight encounter could be in store but the Eagles should have enough to claim victory, with a 2-1 final score looking a tempting prospect.
