This is the second match of a Friday night double-header which kicks off the Danish Superliga season. It features two sides that were fairly evenly matched last term and we are likely to see a close contest here with not a great deal to choose between the pair.

The bookies make SonderjyskE the slight favourites, chiefly because they hold home advantage. They narrowly missed out on the Championship Round last term but comfortably beat the drop and stand a good chance of being a mid-ranking team again this time around. They’ve been a solid top flight team for a decade now but may struggle to emulate the 2nd place they managed two years ago.

As for Aalborg, they ended last season in 5th place but a long way off the real top sides. Their finish wasn’t good enough for a place in Europe and that may be the target this term for the four-time Danish champions.

It’s not easy to pick a winner here but there are a few reasons why it looks like SonderjyskE might have the edge. Their recent home form has been good with 5 wins from their last 6 games on their own patch, including a pre-season friendly win over Randers last week. Defensively they were excellent over that period, keeping a clean sheet in all 5 of their wins so they have some really solid foundations to take into the new season.

That’s a measure of the task for Aalborg and their away form hasn’t been particularly convincing either. They’ve not won any of their last 8 away games including one friendly. Their last road victory was on this ground, which is at least a good omen for them but overall they seem to have lost their way when they travel.

With the bookies only making the home team the slight favourites here, backing SonderjyskE Draw No Bet looks like the smart bet, although it is likely to be a close game. Defensively solidity has been key to their recent success so going for a 1-0 Home Win appeals in the Correct Score market.

Given that all of their last 10 home games have produced two or fewer goals in total, there also looks to be value in going for Under 2.5 Goals in the Total Goals market.
