Southampton vs Manchester City Predictions
- City have scored 17 goals and conceded just one in their last three games.
- The visitors won the reverse fixture 4-1.
- Southampton are winless in four, failing to score in three of those games.
City can pile misery on Saints
Manchester City are eight points behind pacesetters Arsenal ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures but they haven’t given up on their title defence just yet, and that could be bad news for Southampton on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s men have won their last seven games across all competitions and they dismantled Liverpool last weekend, recording a 4-1 win.
Saints have enjoyed some success against the big guns of late, claiming points from Manchester United and Spurs, but City are a different proposition and the hosts could be set for a difficult evening in the late kick off on Saturday.
Handicap markets a clear starting point
Southampton sit rock bottom of the league and are four points adrift of safety, with four defeats in their last seven games across all competitions.
Saints did beat City 2-0 in an EFL Cup shock the last time these sides met but the defending champions won the reverse Premier League fixture 4-1, and they may well view Saturday’s game as a chance to take some revenge.
The handicap line is set at -2 for the visitors in this one and City should be able to win with plenty of room to spare.
Guardiola’s side beat Liverpool comfortably last week despite Erling Haaland’s absence and he is expected to be back this week after returning to training.
City have won their last seven games and have beaten a -2 handicap in five of those wins, including each of their last three – where they have scored 17 goals and conceded just once.
KDB can make a statement
A 4-0 win for City looks a reasonable correct score prediction as they are averaging 3.9 goals-per-game over their last seven fixtures and have five clean sheets during that run, while Saints have failed to score in three of their last four games.
Kevin De Bruyne stands out as a potential anytime scorer, Haaland aside, after grabbing a goal against Liverpool. The Belgian also scored for his country over the international break and has three goals in his last six games for his club.
