Another thriller for Lyon

Relegation-threatened Saint-Etienne have struggled at the back this season, and both teams to score looks the best bet in Sunday’s Rhone-Alpes derby with Lyon at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. It has landed in a number of these sides’ recent games.

Lyon are fourth in Ligue 1, 13 places above Saint-Etienne, with the two sides separated by 27 points. Lyon have won 15 of their 29 games this season, while Saint-Etienne have just six wins.

Saint-Etienne are struggling to find a win, having gone three Ligue 1 games without recording a victory. They have won just one of their last ten matches and are finding it hard to put opponents away. In contrast, Lyon are in form, aiming for a third straight success, and have avoided defeat in nine of the last ten meetings with Saint-Etienne.

Saint-Etienne’s 3-3 draw with Brest kept up their recent trend of matches with both teams scoring. St-Etienne came back from a goal down to earn a decent point, having been 23/10 outsiders to win the game.

No team has shipped more goals in Ligue 1 this season than the 67 goals Saint-Etienne have conceded, and they have gone three games without recording a shutout. Lyon have failed to keep a clean sheet in nine of their last 11 league games. The visitors are also coming off a thriller at Old Trafford, where they lost 5-4 to Manchester United to exit the Europa League with a 7-6 aggregate defeat.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in ten of Lyon’s 15 league away games this term, with nine of their last 11 on the road seeing goals at both ends.

Lyon have been winners on three of their last four Ligue 1 away days and have secured the last two victories over Saint-Etienne by a single goal. A 2-1 win for Lyon looks a decent correct-score bet, with over 2.5 goals having landed in their last four league games.
