St Johnstone vs Aberdeen Predictions
- Aberdeen are unbeaten in normal time in 14 games across all comps.
- The Dons won all four of their League Cup group games.
- St Johnstone lost four of their final six league games last season.
Dons can hit the ground running
Aberdeen ended up in the relegation group last season but they made a strong finish to the season and should have too much for hosts St Johnstone on Monday in the opening round of Premiership games.
The Dons come into the game after a perfect run in the League Cup with four wins in as many games, having ended last season with four wins in their final five.
Aberdeen are unbeaten in normal time since March, a run stretching 14 games, while St Johnstone limped over the line last season with four losses in their final six games – with only goal difference saving them from a relegation play-off.
The Saints also enjoyed a productive League Cup group stage as they reached the next round but they did suffer a defeat to League One side Alloa during their four games.
Aberdeen look to have played themselves into some form already for an early assault on the Premiership and they look good value to kick off the new season with a win.
The Dons only conceded one goal in the League Cup groups and they were tight defensively at the backend of last term as well, keeping five clean sheets in their final seven league games – one of which came against their hosts.
The visitors have scored at least twice in each of their last seven competitive games so a 2-0 win for the visitors is the correct score pick, as the Saints conceded on average just under 1.5 goals per-game at home last season and they’ve shipped five goals in four games this term.
