Can Leverkusen keep their title hopes alive?

Bayer Leverkusen have been scoring plenty of goals this season and over 2.5 goals looks the bet when they visit St Pauli’s Millerntor-Stadion in a bid to keep their title hopes alive.

Leverkusen are second in the Bundesliga and went into the weekend trailing Bayern Munich by six points, leaving them with no margin for error with five matches still remaining.

They are 13 places above St Pauli, with the two sides separated by 34 points. Leverkusen have won 18 of their 29 games this season, while St Pauli have won eight.

St Pauli’s recent form in the Bundesliga has been up and down, with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six games, although last weekend’s 2-1 win over Holsten Kiel has given them some breathing space over the bottom three.

Champions Leverkusen, however, are tough opponents. They have won five of their last seven league games and are unbeaten in nine of their last ten matches.

Leverkusen have been impressive in front of goal this season, scoring 63 goals in the Bundesliga. They have scored three goals or more in 11 of their 29 games and average over two goals per game away from home. St Pauli have found the net in five successive league games, although they only scored once in three of those.

Bayer Leverkusen have won their last four away games and were 2-1 winners against St Pauli last time they met in the Bundesliga. St Pauli have gone down by a single goal eight times this season, so the 2-1 away win looks a decent correct-score bet.
