St Pauli vs Nurnberg Predictions
- St Pauli picked up a league high 37 home points last season (W11, D4, L2).
- Nurnberg haven’t won away to St Pauli since 2015.
- Visiting manager Robert Klaub has never defeated St Pauli (D2, L2).
St Pauli’s new promotion push begins here
It was heartbreak at the end of last season as St Pauli narrowly missed out on a top-three finish by a mere three points. Failing to achieve promotion was largely down to poor away form though, with the Millerntor-Stadion proving to be the toughest place for any 2. Bundesliga side to visit across the 2021/22 campaign.
Highlighting simply how good that home form was, they would have still finished in mid table even had they lost every single away game. Now Timo Schultz’s men look to continue in that vein in this season opener and they look primed to do exactly that against a Nurnberg side winless in four straight competitive away games.
With a host of new signings ready to take the field, Schultz may well be confident of maintaining his rock solid record against his opposite number Robert Klaub (W3, D2, L1).
A tough time for Nurnberg
Finishing in mid-table last season, Nurnberg look to get off to a better start this time around in search of promotion to the top-flight. However, they failed to win each of their last five visits to St Pauli and could yet struggle again.
The acquisition of Christopher Daferner is exciting for Nurnberg fans as he scored 13 goals for Dynamo Dresden last term, though that in itself may not be enough to overcome the odds to win in this encounter.
We predict that St Pauli will win this game, albeit by a narrow margin which is why we are going for a smaller stakes play on a 2-1 home win.
