Sunderland vs Arsenal Predictions
Sunderland secured a massive result last weekend when they beat fellow relegation candidates Norwich 3-0 away from home. This win was needed more than any other, and saw Sunderland narrow the gap between them and safety to just a single point. With their superior goal difference, a draw would take them out of the drop zone as Norwich sit this gameweek out.
The relegation candidates have proved difficult to beat during this crucial time in the season as well. Along with their win last weekend they have also drawn four of their last six games, making it just one defeat from their last six. At home they have lost two of their last seven.
Arsenal managed to get a fairly comfortable win at home to West Brom in midweek to extend their own unbeaten streak to five matches, but we all know that they have the potential to stumble massively in games such as this. The hosts will be coming at them and searching for a result and the Gunners away record is nothing to write home about this season.
They have only won three of their last ten away days in all competitions and have lost three times too. It is this sort of record that has put Arsenal’s top four position in jeopardy. They currently sit in 3rd position, but only have a four point advantage over 5th placed Manchester United.
Both Arsenal and Sunderland’s recent form suggests that the relegation candidates could certainly take something away from this game and move out of the bottom three, and the long term record throughout the season backs this up. Arsenal have won under half of their away games this season, whilst Sunderland have avoided defeat in over half of their matches at the Stadium of Light.
This makes odds of 21/20 for a Sunderland Win or Draw Double Chance very good value for money, and I’m backing that along with a 1-1 draw at 13/2.
