Swansea vs Liverpool Predictions

Swansea followed up a very disheartening 3-0 defeat at Newcastle earlier in April with an equally disappointing 4-0 thrashing in Leicester, ending their three match unbeaten streak and causing further concern over their performances on the road.

Away from home they have won just one of their last seven outings, losing four times and conceding 16 goals. At the Liberty Stadium it’s a completely different story though. They have won three on the bounce at home and conceded just two goals in their last six matches there, making for quite a ridiculous contrast in results.

This home form has carried them almost to guaranteed safety. Mathematically, there is still a chance that Norwich, Sunderland, and Crystal Palace could all leapfrog them to put them in the drop zone in the final game of the season, but a nine point difference between them and Norwich means that it’s incredibly unlikely. A point on Sunday would wrap up safety once and for all after a bit of a worrying period earlier in the season.

Liverpool had to pay a visit to Spain in midweek as they played out the first leg of their Europa League semi final with Villarreal. It was all going fine for Jurgen Klopp, if a little boring, as Liverpool held the Spaniards off and looked to be aiming for a goalless draw. That’s a dangerous tactic though, and with almost the final kick of the game Villarreal boosted their chances of a final appearance massively with a late winner.

This ended Liverpool’s seven match unbeaten streak in all competitions and made it two games without a win for them after Newcastle came from behind to claim a point at Anfield last weekend.

Liverpool’s goalscoring record at Anfield has been exceptional recently, but like Swansea there is a stark contrast between their home and away games. Away from home they have only averaged a goal per game recently.

This gives Swansea something to work with. Their defence is very hard to break down at the Liberty Stadium, and as such they have been able to win four of their last six games there 1-0. Whatever happens I’m not expecting many goals in this one, so odds of 10/11 for Under 2.5 Goals look very good value. I’m also backing Swansea to get another 1-0 win at excellent odds of 9/1.
