Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory Predictions
After strolling to the Australia A-League Premiership for two seasons running, Sydney FC were finally dethroned this year as the vastly improved Perth Glory came from nowhere to lead the A-League regular season from start to finish.
Eventually, after a 2-0 loss on the final day of the season, The Sky Blues finished some eight points adrift of the victors, although they did manage to book their place in this semi final by beating Melbourne Victory to 2nd place by two points.
Still, it’s been far from an impressive season as far as the Sydney FC fans go. They lost seven times in their 27 game campaign, which is more than they had in the previous two seasons combined. However, a reclaiming of the A-League Championship title would go a long way to repairing this damage.
Firstly, they must get through current holders Melbourne Victory, who endured another disappointing regular season but will be hoping to come alive in the playoffs again, just as they did last term.
Victory are in decent form coming into this match, having won five of their last seven games. However, one of their two defeats in this period was away to Sydney FC in April, and their overall away record is far from satisfactory. They have only won five of their last 10 trips away in the A-League, losing three times in the process.
Meanwhile, the hosts have won eight of their last 10 home games in the league and only lost once. To make matters worse for Melbourne Victory, they will also look back on a record of seven defeats from their last 11 matches against their arch rivals.
All things considered, we think Sydney FC have what it takes to get through this tie and book their place in the final. With such an excellent recent home record, backing a Sydney FC Win here along with a 2-1 correct score prediction looks a great choice.
