Tottenham Hotspur/Tottenham Hotspur

Reason for tip

Spurs have won six home games in a row and four out of five Premier League matches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this term. They should beat a winless Ipswich side that have been the worst first-half team in the Premier League, failing to lead at the break in any of their 10 games. Ipswich have trailed at the interval five times and it is likely to be curtains for them if they do so again.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-1

Reason for tip

Tottenham have scored at least three goals in four of their five home league games this term. Son’s return and the potential restoration of James Maddison to their starting league line-up boosts their prospects of hitting a treble against Town, who have shipped an average of 2.6 goals per away PL game this term. Ipswich have scored in four of their five road trips while Spurs have shipped in four of their five homes, although never more than one goal.

Heung Min Son To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Son can add to his three league goals this season on Sunday against the struggling Tractor Boys. He scored twice for Tottenham on Ipswich’s only previous visit to the ground for a 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat in 2020.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Ipswich Predictions

  • Spurs have won six home games in a row and four out of five Premier League matches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this term
  • Ipswich remain winless after gaining promotion with discipline problems clouding their recent results
  • The Tractor Boys are the worst first-half team in the Premier League

Spurs set to punish any Ipswich ill-discipline

Tottenham’s first competitive clash with Ipswich in more than 20 years should yield a much-needed three points for Ange Postecoglu’s side as they attempt to win a seventh game in a row at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs suffered a 3-2 Europa League defeat to Galatasaray in midweek, but Postecoglu rested several of his best players with one eye on this weekend’s clash. He could revert to the line-up that saw off Aston Villa 4-1 last weekend, although there is a strong likelihood that James Maddison start in midfield against perceived weaker opponents.

Ipswich are still seeking their first Premier League win of the campaign, having been denied their moment of celebration by Jordan Ayew’s stoppage-time equaliser last Saturday. Kalvin Phillips, whose personal winless run extends back to March, will miss the trip to North London through suspension after he was sent off last weekend.

Kieran McKenna’s side finished their last away game, a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat at Brentford, with 10 men and any further lack of discipline will also be punished by Spurs, who have won four of their five home league games this term.

Town’s first-half flops could fall behind early

The only blot on Tottenham’s home record is that 1-0 North London Derby defeat back in September with Postecoglu’s troops having convincingly won the rest. Backing them to cover a -1 handicap is one way to bump the odds up this weekend.

Another profitable avenue could be to back Spurs to be ahead at both half and full-time. The Lilywhiyes have led at the break in only two of their five top-flight league games this term, but Ipswich have trailed in three of their five Premier League road games.

In fact, McKenna’s side are currently the worst first-half team in the division, having not led at the break in any of their 10 games and trailed in exactly half.

Son can seal Spurs’ win with a goal

Certainly, Spurs should win with the gulf in class between the two clubs likely to be exploited by a world-class performer like Son Heung-Min.

The South Korean is being eased back into the first-team fray by Postecoglu, but produced several moments of quality in last week’s 4-1 win over Villa.

Son can add to his three league goals this season on Sunday afternoon against the struggling Tractor Boys. He scored twice for Tottenham on Ipswich’s only previous visit to the ground for a 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat in 2020.
