Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United Predictions
- Over 2.5 goals has landed in four of the last five meetings between these sides, including two 2-2 draws.
- 71% of Tottenham’s Premier League games this season have gone over 2.5 goals.
Struggling Spurs look for glimmer of hope
Tottenham were knocked out of a second cup competition in under a week last weekend as Aston Villa secured a 2-1 win at Villa Park, following on from a 4-0 thumping against Liverpool in their EFL Cup semi-final second leg in midweek.
The injury hit Spurs, who are 14th in the table and two points behind Sunday’s visitors, will now turn their attention towards salvaging their disastrous Premier League campaign, and it could be another high-scoring affair in north London.
The under-pressure Ange Postecoglou could welcome a host of names back to the squad for Sunday’s game, but they remain without at least six players through injury and this rag-tag lineup could play a key role in what should be an entertaining affair.
Red Devils riding their luck
Manchester United enjoyed more success in their FA Cup tie last weekend but, yet again, it wasn’t exactly a convincing display as they relied on an injury time winner from Harry Maguire to beat the struggling Leicester.
This was their fourth win in their last five games, but Ruben Amorim’s side have been nowhere near their best and should count themselves lucky to have picked up so many results.
Goals expected in north London
Despite their dreadful season, no side outside the top four have scored more goals than Spurs this term which, combined with their defensive fragility, leaves them with the second-most goals per game average in the division.
71% of their league affairs have gone over 2.5 goals, as have seven of their last eight in all competitions and four of their last five meetings with Manchester United, so backing that appeals on Sunday.
Two of these five head-to-head meetings have ended 2-2, and that looks a solid correct score pick here. Manchester United have scored exactly twice in three of their last five games and Spurs have scored 1.71 goals per game and conceded 1.86 goals per game across their last seven in all competitions.
