Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle Predictions

  • Newcastle have won their last four Premier League matches.
  • Tottenham have kept one clean sheet in their last 25 home league games.
  • Alexander Isak has scored eight goals in his last seven appearances for the Magpies.

Magpies firmly in the top-four chase

Newcastle have undoubtedly entered the race for a Champions League spot after four success Premier League victories and they can boost their chances of dining at Europe’s top table once again by claiming another win at down-in-the-mouth Tottenham.

While comfortable wins over promoted Leicester and Ipswich would have been expected, the fact the Magpies eased past Aston Villa 3-0 and then won 2-0 at Manchester United for their first win at Old Trafford in 11 years mean Eddie Howe’s deserve a wealth of respect.

Four successive clean sheets have been the bedrock of their recent success, but after scoring 12 goals in those recent outings mean they should be licking their lips about the prospect of face a battered Spurs defence.

Injury woes are still hitting Tottenham

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been patching up his rearguard for weeks with his best two central defenders, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, being joined in the treatment room by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

That has given them a shaky look and the unavailability of Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie has left alternatives think on the ground and the makeshift backline often exposed.

The home side have enough attacking flair to cause problems for the visitors and they should threaten, but it seems doubtful they will offer much resolve at the other end, so a 3-2 away win may be of interest to correct-score enthusiasts.

Isak continues to produce the goods

While their defending has been excellent, the Magpies have also benefited from having the services of one of the Premier League’s most in-form strikers, Alexander Isak.

The Swedish forward, who scored a hat-trick in the recent 4-0 victory over Ipswich, has 12 league goals this season and has not just produced the goods against the lesser teams as he has found the net against Liverpool, Arsenal, surprise package Nottingham Forest and in the league and EFL Cup against Chelsea.

Chances could be aplenty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, so expect Newcastle’s latest scoring hero to step up to the mark.
