Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton Predictions
- Spurs have three wins in their last five at home across all comps.
- Saints have six defeats in their last seven.
- Saints have scored in their last three games (D1, L2).
Rotated Spurs can see off sorry Saints
Tottenham take on Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday but their focus will be on the upcoming European clash with Eintracht Frankfurt next week.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will shuffle his pack for this game against the league’s bottom club, but even a changed Tottenham team should be too strong for Southampton.
The visitors did at least manage to halt a six-game losing run with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at St Mary’s in midweek. That point may have felt like a defeat, however, as Palace equalised in injury time.
Back Spurs to win and concede
Tottenham are in poor form but results at home haven’t been terrible. Spurs have three wins in their last five at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they are coming up against a team who have 12 defeats and just one win in 15 Premier League away games.
A home win with goals at both ends has a chance here as Saints have at least managed to score in each of their last three games and Spurs have gone seven without a clean sheet.,
Saints have scored just 11 goals on the road in the Premier League so one strike may be as good as it gets for the visitors.
When Tottenham do win they usually manage a few goals and they’ve scored at least three in four of their last six victories across all competitions.
Southampton have shipped 31 goals in their 15 away games, so a 3-1 home win looks a reasonable correct score prediction.
Tel can make most of opportunity
Son Heung-min should be given the afternoon off on Sunday ahead of the game against Frankfurt, which means the likes of Brennan Johnson and Mathys Tel should come into the starting XI.
Tel has been unable to make much of an impact at Spurs after joining on loan from Bayern Munich but the 19-year-old may be able to seize his chance if he is handed a start on Sunday.
The forward has scored for Spurs in the FA Cup and struck twice for France’s Under 21s against Slovakia over the last international break, so he appeals as a potential anytime scorer.
