Ukraine can open with victory

Ukraine and Albania return to action after respective group stage exits at Euro 2024 with a clash in Prague.

Ukraine were unlucky to fall at the first hurdle in Germany after all four teams in their Group E finished on four points after three games. Albania were in an incredibly tough group but came out of their own early exit with some credit, managing a point against Croatia as well as keeping things tight in defeats to eventual winners Spain and defending champions Italy.

However, Albania’s record in the Nations League is poor and they have historically struggled against Ukraine. As the designated home team at neutral venues, Ukraine have an impressive record in this competition (W5, D2, L1) so a win for the hosts looks a strong play here.

A Ukraine win is predicted, but they may not win by a huge margin as under 2.5 goals has landed in six of their last seven as the designated home team at a neutral venue. Ukraine have also managed four clean sheets during that run and Albania have failed to score in their last three away losses, so a 2-0 win for Ukraine is the correct score prediction.

Coach Serhiy Rebrov is without striker Artem Dovbyk due to injury so Roman Yaremchuk should start and he can make the most of the opportunity with a goal. Yarmechuk has one goal in three games for Greek side Olympiacos this season despite playing for just 38 minutes in total, so he comes into this game fresh and in solid form.
