Can Ukraine build on confidence-boosting win?

A 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday meant the Ukraine bounced back brilliantly from the disappointment of failing to qualify for the World Cup after losing their play-off to Wales.

Oleksandr Petrakov has had a strong start to life as the country’s manager, losing just once in ten games since taking charge, initially as a caretaker, after Euro 2020.

Each of his four wins have come away from home, and this match is being played at a neutral venue in Poland due to the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, The Blue and Yellows have never lost to Armenia, winning five of their eight meetings, although they have not faced each other since 2003.

Armenia searching for consistency

Armenia have had a meteoric rise of late, earning promotions in both Nations League campaigns so far, but they remain as low as 92nd place in the FIFA rankings.

That is down to a poor run of just two wins in 13 games, with each of those victories coming at home. On the road, they have lost five of the last seven and are winless in eight.
