Atletico to grind out victory

Atletico Madrid continue their title challenge at Valencia on Saturday and the best bet is for Diego Simeone’s men to get the win at Mestalla.

Atleti are third in the league, 15 places and 27 points above Valencia having won 14, drawn eight and lost two of their 24 games this season, while the hosts sit in the relegation zone with five wins, eight draws and 11 defeats.

Valencia and Villarreal played out a tightly contested 1-1 draw in their last Primera Liga game on Saturday, offering further hope that their season is about to turn around under Carlos Corberan.

Los Che’s sole defeat in five came against Barcelona but Atletico Madrid are in fine form and are unbeaten in nine of their last ten league matches.

Their defence is the meanest in the league, having conceded just 16 goals in 24 games. They have kept clean sheets in four of their last five matches against Valencia in La Liga.

Atleti can edge this, with a 1-0 correct score in favour of the visitors looking like a decent bet.

Five of Atletico’s 14 wins in the league this season have been by a 1-0 scoreline and seven of Valencia’s 11 defeats have come by the odd goal.
