Atalanta to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Venezia have lost six of their eight games this season, including four of their last five in Serie A. It is hard to see them being up to the task against an Atalanta side that performed brilliantly in big wins over Shakhtar Donetsk (3-0) and Genoa (5-1) before the international break.

Atalanta 2-1

Reason for tip

Venezia have conceded 12 goals this season, including at least two in five of their eight league and cup fixtures. But Atalanta have shipped 13 and rarely keep clean sheets so a 2-1 away win may be on the cards.

Mateo Retegui To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Serie A’s joint-top scorer with seven goals, Mateo Retegui has scored five times in his last three appearances for club and country.

Venezia vs Atalanta Predictions

  • Venezia have lost six of their eight games this season, including four of their last five in Serie A
  • Atalanta enjoyed big wins over Shakhtar Donetsk (3-0) and Genoa (5-1) before the international break
  • Mateo Retegui has scored five goals in his last three appearances for club and country

Venezia must beware red-hot Retegui

Atalanta can extend their winning streak when they head to Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on Sunday to take on Serie A basement boys Venezia. La Dea had two eye-catching results before the international break when they beat Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen and Genoa 5-1 at home, both with excellent performances.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side boast the most prolific striker in Italy at the moment in Mateo Retegui, who followed up his hat-trick against Genoa with a goal in each of the Azzurri’s Nations League games last week.

He looks a good bet to get on the scoresheet again in a high-scoring contest, as all of Atalanta’s games tend to be nowadays. At least three goals have been scored in seven of their last nine games in all competitions and it looks like an obvious play to back over 2.5 goals alongside an away win.

Atalanta can extend their winning run

Venezia will be looking to get off the bottom of the table and build some Serie A momentum. They have conceded 12 goals this season, which is actually one fewer than Atalanta, but have scored only five times.

At least their Finnish striker Johan Pohjanpalo, who hit 22 in Serie B last term, looks good enough to score a few at the higher level. He scored in Finland’s win over the Republic of Ireland last week and seems to be in decent form.

That should enhance the chances of both teams scoring in the game and three or more goals being produced, but Atalanta have too much quality for their hosts and should take the points.
