Venezia vs Genoa Predictions
- Genoa are winless in 22 Serie A matches.
- Genoa have failed to score in four of their last six games.
- Venezia impressively beat Torino away from home last time out.
Genoa’s troubles set to continue in six-pointer?
Sunday’s meeting between Venezia and Genoa could go a long way to deciding the fate of Serie A’s relegation battle. Venezia, who have lost four of their last six league games, are in the bottom three in goal difference but have a game in hand, while time is surely running out for Genoa, who are six points from safety and winless since the third weekend of the campaign.
Venezia may have slipped into the bottom three, but their recent form could be a red herring for punters; Paolo Zanetti’s team have lost four league games since early December, all against top-quality opposition in Lazio, AC Milan, Inter, and Napoli. Their 2-1 win at Torino last week was deeply impressive, even if it was their first league victory since beating Bologna on 21st November.
Genoa are desperately seeking inspiration under new boss Alexander Blessin, who has drawn all three games at the helm. Genoa’s 22-match winless run leaves them second-bottom, although they have managed by far the most draws in Serie A, recording 12 stalemates. If Genoa are to pull off a miraculous escape, they will have to reverse a truly horrendous goalscoring record; Il Grifone have failed to score in four of their last six, and scored just five times in their last 15 league outings.
Back Venezia for a win, but beware the draw
Considering Venezia’s recent form has been largely the product of a horrendous fixture list, we’re advising punters to get behind Zanetti’s team against a Genoa side which has endured a nightmare campaign.
However, given Genoa’s reputation as draw specialists, and the fact that these teams drew 0-0 back in October, the draw no bet market could provide punters with some security.
A 1-0 home win, meanwhile, could be a decent correct score play, with Genoa failing to score in 12 of their 25 league contests.
