Villarreal could be licking wounds after Vigo mauling

Villarreal suffered a setback in their pursuit of a top-five berth in La Liga on Wednesday, losing 3-0 away to Celta Vigo, and they could again drop points at home to Espanyol.

The Yellow Submarine were outplayed by Vigo at Balaidos, allowing their opponents nine shots on target, although the first-half sending off of defender Eric Bailly did not help matters.

And while they are still in a strong position in the race for the top five, they have stalled of late and have Real Betis hot on their heels.

Villarreal have had a tough time of it in the league since the start of March, winning only two of their last seven league fixtures.

And visitors Espanyol could sniff an opportunity when they head to El Madrigal.

Espanyol can hold firm against Yellow Submarine

The club from Barcelona are nestled in a safe mid-table position in La Liga but their recent run means making the European places might not be entirely out of the question with six games to play. 

On Tuesday they dug deep to draw 1-1 away to resurgent Valencia and had won three games on the spin against Rayo Vallecano, Celta Vigo and Getafe beforehand.

They can be a tough nut to crack and are worth backing to avoid defeat, while 1-1 appeals in the correct score betting.
